Discovery + is the latest streaming service for landing in Comcast Xfinity set-top boxes


Comcast Adding another streaming service to its Xfinity Flex and X1 set-top boxes. Discovery + Now only streaming-only is available on the Flex platform and it will reach the X1 box in the coming weeks. Advertising-free plans for Discovery + subscriptions cost 5 / month, or $ 7 / month.

In addition to dozens of originals, Discovery Networks has more than 55,000 episodes across its portfolio. This includes the BBC Natural History Project and non-fiction content from A&E, The History Channel and Lifetime.

There are also a few more subscription-based discovery apps now on Flex and coming soon to X1. Food Network Kitchen includes recipes, instructional videos and cooking classes with the personality of the food network. MotorTrend, meanwhile, focuses on automotive entertainment.

It’s no surprise that Cast Discover + added. Xfinity Flex and X1 customers can access a boat load of other streaming apps through their set-top boxes. These include Comcast’s own Peacock, Netflix, , , Amazon Prime Video, , Amazon Music, YouTube, Voodoo and Pandora.

Subscribing to those services at the top of the cable plan would probably be an extra dimension. Still, it is a smart move to frame Flex and X1 as convenient hubs for both cable and streaming services.
