Thanks worldwide Events that have affected almost everyone on the planet, many of us are now working from home – if not – weekly. It has the advantage that if you really enjoy your trip, it will make it harder for you to keep the boundaries between work and everything else.

We’re specifically talking about notifications outside of office hours, whatever they may be. Think of incoming edits in boss emails or company slack channel references or files: You can never run away from your job if you keep a 24-hour alert for these kinds of events.

At best you’re going to interrupt your leisure and rest time with confusing pings; Worst of all, they’re going to let you complete a task or follow a task that may wait until tomorrow (or after the weekend). Here’s how to set it up.

Settings inside your app

Some apps allow you to limit notifications at specific times.

Even before you access the settings available on your phone and laptop, check out the apps you often use for work: they may have their own configuration options to keep them quiet at certain times of the day (or some days of the week).

Take slack, for example. Open Slack on the web, click your profile picture in the top right corner, then select. Preferences. Upstairs Notification Tabs, you can use them by completely disabling notifications (which your superiors may not be very happy with) Allow notification Under settings Notification schedule Only allow alerts within certain hours of the day. You can even set different times for different days.

Perhaps the Microsoft team might prefer your workplace to Slack. You can’t set working hours in teams, but you can at least customize which channels you’ll receive notifications from and which devices to send notifications to – so you can turn off alerts for your phone while you’re on your laptop, for example.
