iOS 15.1 was Released yesterday, Which means you can finally start checking out Apple’s long awaited Shareplay features. After seeing how many bogies were on iOS 15 beta, I was able to test the shareplay this week during a briefing with Apple and the experience was surprisingly smooth. Although SharePlay works just fine A small collection of apps At the moment, it is also coming to Disney + soon, when it will be updated today to support NBA and TikTok apps. I’ve seen a few videos and a Milwaukee Bucks game through these apps in my demo, and besides being impressed with how stable everything is from beta, I’ve found some tips particularly useful.

Set up and start a shareplay session

First, make sure you and your friends have all updated their devices to iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1. Just like we observed in beta, you need to start a FaceTime call before you can sharePlay anything. Once you make a call, open a supported app and you’ll see a warning at the top of the screen asking if you want to stream your content. When you start a session, your callers will see a box pop up at the top of the screen to join you.

In most cases, you need to install relevant apps (such as TikTok, HBO Max, Showtime, Paramount, Apple TV, etc.) for those with whom you share. In some cases, they must have a subscription or at least an account.

When you’re watching a show together, anyone on the call can pause, move on or rewind, and it brings everyone to the same point in the stream. When you see something, FaceTime will run in picture-in-picture mode on top of your display and will appear in the box where anyone is talking on your call.

Share your screen

If you want to share your screen instead of watching a show, you need to pull up the command panel and press the button to the right while you’re in a FaceTime call that resembles the one in front. Rectangle.

When you’re sharing your screen, your friends can pinch what you’re showing them But during a screen share session, your alerts (or other notices that pop up) will not be displayed on their screens if there is sensitive information that you do not want others to see. The pill at the top left of your screen will also turn purple to remind you that you are sharing the screen.

When I saw someone share their screens, however, I could still go back to my own phone and open another app. FaceTime’s Picture-in-Picture tiles showed my collar screen with their faces in an embedded picture-in-picture. Get started!

Other features

The control box lets you access the iMessage window for everyone on the call. You can continue watching a game with your family on the NBA app without having to turn on your camera or mic and send texts instead. This is especially helpful when you need a toilet break when a game lasts long.

Apple has also created a feature called Smart Volume that automatically reduces streaming audio when you speak so that everyone can hear you. It works best with AirPods, but it will also work with the speakers on your device.

Depending on the developers of each app, other tools can be embedded to make them more useful. At Apple Music, for example, you can see the lyrics of songs that are playing in real time, and tapping a particular lyric will bring you and your callers to that point on the track. When you’re all together on TikTok, everyone can like their favorite videos. The popular game Heads Up will also come to shareplay so you can guess the word of mouth when your friends use it for you.

SharePlay works with iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs, and most playback features are the same across Apple’s ecosystem. Those who have an Apple Watch will be able to use this feature for group workouts or meditations on Fitness + with up to 32 callers. So far, SharePlay only works with a few apps, but as more developers integrate it, iOS users may soon find more ways to socialize and digitally engage with loved ones.
