Rishi Sunak’s Spring Statement which changes national insurance thresholds (“Sunak banks windfall for pre-election tax cut as cost of living crisis hits home”, ReportMarch 24) is welcome, but to avoid a full-scale cost of living crisis the changes need to be enacted now.
The statement claims they can not take effect until July to allow payroll software providers and employers to implement the changes.
We are the leading payroll software provider in the UK, with one in six people paid through our software, and we can confirm that this change can be made in hours, and can and should come into effect for the start of the new tax year on April 6
Please do not use the payroll industry as the reason for delay when it’s not necessary. Let’s help people now.
