It was refreshing to see Anjana Ahuja’s sober, clear-headed piece “Living with endemic Covid does not mean a painless game over” (Opinion, 18 January). It is important for all of us to remember that if we want to avoid the temporary introduction of “draconian” measures, we will have to adopt their more casual (but no less useful) cousins permanently – masking, improving ventilation, routine vaccination – as well as living constantly with the threat of a new variant, or someone we love to get sick of. Perhaps the so-called draconian measures – for a short time – may not be so bad after all.
