I read with interest Edwin Heathcote’s piece on the background of the loss of the Liverpool waterfront to the UNESCO World Heritage Site (“Liverpool were careless with their legacy”, Opinion, FT weekend, July 24). Unfortunately, this is not the only place where important heritage sites are threatened by proposals for “soulless speculative plan[s] designed for global investors ”and“ germinated commercial pages instead of intelligent reuse of existing empty structures ”.
I would be interested in Heathcote’s opinion on the proposal to erect an 80 meter tower from Nicholas Hawksmoor’s St George’s Church in Bloomsbury.
