Many experts have now pointed out the risk that a war between the US and China could cause nuclear power. Shinzo Abe, Japan’s former prime minister, believes that an emergency in Taiwan will also be an emergency for the US-Japan alliance (“Abe warns Beijing about Taiwan invasion”, Report2 December).
If so, this raises the important question – which the mainstream media has apparently not sufficiently discussed or avoided discussing so far – that if Japan joins a war against China on the US side and the war goes nuclear, what is Japan’s ability or readiness to survive such a war?
America and China have vast interiors that can help them survive better, Japan does not.
For the sake of Japan, Abe should use his influence to encourage peace and not exacerbate tensions.
