Russia has not cut off the gas or launched cyber attacks, and will not launch war across NATO borders, much less a nuclear one (FT View, March 2). Moreover NATO’s defense budget is over six times the size of Russia’s.

As an American citizen, living in Prague, I would like to know the point of having such might when desperately needed and not using it. If we had such a military advantage in 1939, should we have said “sorry, Czechoslovakia, we have no treaty with you”? Or should we have saved the world from Hitler? Are we waiting for another Sarajevo massacre? It’s coming.

There are times when freedom must be fought for. The longer we cowardly turn our backs, the harder the fight will be.
