I am not convinced by Josh Spero’s promotion of the merits of the color black (“So about the rainbow: why I wear black”, Life & ArtJanuary 8).
In the depths of lockdown, my Jaguar sports car, painted in black, began to symbolize to me the gloom of that era. In spite of that, I had it repainted in a lovely shade of American red – “Kandy Apple Red”, an iridescent riot of color.
The shade I chose matched the color of a crimson chord pants I bought earlier, in a first attempt to lighten my mood.
I encourage Spero to give color back to his wardrobe. The knock-on effects are delicious.
