Your columnist Merryn Somerset Webb suggests boards should have a non-executive director responsible for shareholder communication and engagement so as to promote the views of activist investors directly to the board (“Nagging is still the best way to make boards more active”, OpinionFT Weekend, April 2).

It looks as if the board of Twitter may be already embracing this idea. In welcoming the Tesla founder Elon Musk to the board of Twitter, the FT reports (April 6) chief executive Parag Agrawal saying: “He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic. . ., which is exactly what we need. . . in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term. ” Elon Musk: corporate governance trendsetter.
