From the article: Intel has removed support for SGX (Software Guard Extension) on 12th generation Intel Core 11000 and 12000 processors, making modern PCs unable to play Blu-ray Disc at 4K resolution.

This technical problem stems from the fact that Blu-ray discs require digital rights management (DRM), which requires the presence of SGX to work.

This is a feature that Intel introduced in the Skylake generation in 2016, enabling PCs to play secure Blu-ray discs for the first time.

As can be seen in the current datasheets of Intel’s 11th and 12th generation core desktop processors, the SGX is listed as a deprecated technology, so it is no longer available.
