That’s a fair question.

Scalpers fill a need. The very nature of the market dictates that the intersection began supply and demand is where the equilibrium price is, whether the supply comes entirely from chain stores or not.

A scalper who doesn’t drop the price enough to sell the item is failing at scalping. As in any other market, the PS5 market includes an equilibrium price point that everyone is searching for. Even scalpers have near-perfect knowledge of other people’s prices and can adjust their own accordingly.

They don’t sit in warehouses for long… and even if they did, it isn’t as if the PS5 consoles go rotten. The scalpers’ success is Sony’s fault for neither (i) charging more for the units, nor (ii) producing more units.
