Sony has Revealed FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II Zoom lens which seems to be an interesting option for hybrid video and photo shooters. Designed for the company’s full-frame Alpha-series Mirrorless camera, it is the lightest 70-200mm F2.8 lens on the market, 1,045g, Sony said. It provides a number of features aimed at filmmakers that are not commonly seen in such lenses.

Although larger zoom lenses tend to focus slowly, Sony says the new model provides reliable focus using four XD linear motors that are three times faster than rival models and four times faster than Sony’s previous model. Alpha 1 camera. Tracking with continuous autofocus while zooming has also improved by 30 percent compared to the first-gen model. It does not focus on quiet sound, so the camera microphone is less likely to pick up motor sound.

Video shooters often have to focus on the subject, but lenses designed for photography typically display “breathing” or zoom in and out when changing focus. Sony says it designed the FE 70-200 F2.8 GM OSS II to reduce it, and the focus shift is reduced when zooming. Such features are usually found only in cinema lenses which are much more expensive.

When handling well with internally operated dual lens components, the lens should provide excellent bokeh for wide, uninterrupted F2.8 aperture. It offers three separate rings for focus, aperture and zoom, making it easy to rig for movie use. Other features include high resolution, extra-low scattering, aspherical glass to suppress chromatic abrasions, Sony’s Nano AR Coating II flare and ghost reduction, and a new 11-blade aperture that creates a softer, more rounded bokeh.

Sony also offers FE 1.4x And FE 2.0x Teleconverter ($ 548 for each) which increases the focal length of the lens at F5.6 to 400mm. The FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II zoom lens will go on sale in December for $ 2,800 or $ 3,500 CAD in Canada.
