In just a few hours, NASA will try to launch one of its most fascinating missions in recent memory. Approximately 1:21 AM ET, a Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX It is to be carried from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California Double asteroid redirection test (DART) Craft. In about a year, NASA will deliberately try to destroy DART on an incoming asteroid to see if it can change its orbit.

The test will mark the first time humans have tried to change the path of an asteroid. The binary system that NASA will target as part of the test does not pose a threat to Earth, but what the agency learns from the mission may be important in the future.
